The Lady in Black of the Acropolis

Tourists and night guards at the Acropolis of Athens have reported a solitary female figure dressed entirely in black standing near the Erechtheion — beside the Porch of the Caryatids — between midnight and 2 AM. The figure stands motionless, facing north toward the Ancient Agora, and disappears when approached or when a light is directed at her.

The most documented account comes from site custodian Andreas Papakostas, who worked night shifts at the Acropolis from 1981 to 2006 and reported seeing the figure on 11 separate occasions. He described her as "wearing mourning clothes from another century," always accompanied by the scent of burning frankincense despite no visible source.
